Could we keep it going?

Västerås vs DIF, 13th of July, Away

First up was a trip to Västerås. We knew that we have usually had the better of them in the past, but they are a competitive team, and we were not taking them lightly. They won the toss and decided to bat first, which made a change from the southern tour, where we had been successful bowling second. But a wicket for Anvesh in the first over was a good start – especially when he followed it up with two more in his second! He bowled excellent lines, beating the bat many times, and ended with figures of 3-13 from 4.

Shaz kept the pressure up from the other end and picked up their number 3 LBW. Pierre and Serge came into the attack and kept up the pressure (even though Serge has barely bowled all year) as they both picked up wickets, Serge going for just 3 runs in his 2 overs.

Shaurav “Golden Arm” Sarkar then brought himself on and picked up two wickets from his first two balls, and it was quickly becoming a procession. He took a another the next over and ended with 3-8 from 2 as Västerås were bowled out for just 65.

The captain’s orders to his openers were to please score the runs without getting out, and that is exactly what they did. Raz (33 from 22) and Aritra (23 from 22) looked supremely untroubled as they knocked off the runs in just 7.2 overs.

DIF vs Göteborg, 21st of July, Home

Next up was the big one: Gothenburg. We were both unbeaten so far, so we knew that if we won this one, we would stand an excellent chance of qualifying for the national semi-finals. There was also some personal pride on the line, as Rahul and Shravan had previously played for Gothenburg.

We won the toss and as usual decided to bat first. Their bowlers managed to keep things tight initially, but Raz (26 from 23) and Aritra (29 from 23) got us off to a solid start and Aritra fell just as he had begun to kick on, with the score at 58 from 7.1 overs. Raz soon followed, and wickets fell in a tumble as their offspinner took four more in quick succession to leave us 79 for 5. Shaurav (21 from 17) helped us recover to a degree, but when he too fell, things were beginning to look a bit bleak. Shaz however had other ideas, as (unperturbed by the continuing procession of wickets at the other end) he stroked a well-made 36 off 23, bringing our total to a somewhat respectable 137.

We were confident we had the bowling line up to defend this, but things were not looking great for a while. Although Prash clean bowled one of the danger men in his first over, their other opener and their number 3 stuck around and had reached 72-1 from 11. Still, they had not gotten ahead of the run rate, so we knew that we stood a good chance if only we could find a way to take wickets. Finally, Shravan found the breakthrough, as their batter struck him powerfully down the ground but was caught above his head on the boundary by Pierre. Three balls later, he had dismissed their other set batter. Pierre then took a wicket off the first ball of his next two overs (both well caught by Aritra behind the stumps), and suddenly the equation was 34 from 30 with 5 wickets left: game on.

Ankit came into the attack and bagged two wickets (one of them a fine catch on the boundary by Shravan), but just as it looked like it might be our game, two powerful sixes were struck, bringing it back to 12 from 2. Shaz bowled an excellent 19th over to leave 7 required from the last. Shaurav, the captain, stepped up to take responsibility. First ball went for one: 6 from 5. Sensing the opportunity to end the game, their batter attempted to sweep him over deep square leg, but only managed to pick out Pierre in the deep, who took a fine catch low to his right. Their next batter tried the same and picked out Shravan at long on. This meant that they needed 6 from 3, with just one wicket left. A single was scored from the next delivery, before their batter tried once again to hit it out the park, this time towards midwicket. The ball flew high enough that it was probably a danger to passing airplanes, but it didn’t have the legs. Still, it took some catching, and Rahul safely pouched it a few paces inside the boundary to spark rampant celebrations.

DIF vs Umeå, 3rd of August, Home

Umeå had beaten us last year, a fate we were keen to avoid this time around. On the other hand, our team was looking stronger and stronger, as we welcomed Wynand back into the side. Once again, we won the toss and batted, and our openers got us off to a solid start. Aritra fell for 31 (off 28) after a 77-run partnership off 8.4 overs.
This seemed like decent going, but Wynand decided to up the tempo and started going for his shots. Ras too was well set and eventually fell for 59 from 33, but this merely started the Wynand and Rahul show. They batted together for just 4.4 overs and scored a whopping 77 runs. Rahul was particularly harsh on their spinner, whom he struck for two fours and a six in one over, whereas Wynand hit just about everyone for sixes over long on and midwicket. One even landed in the football pitches, making it a probably 110-meter hit.

Rahul was dismissed for 29 from 13, with the score at 196/3 off 17. By this point, Wynand had 60 from 29 and he started inquiring as to how far he was from 100. “Too many” came the response, but he had other ideas, as he took three enormous sixes off the next over. Shaz was happy to settle for a run a ball 2 and give him the strike as he carried on smoking them to all parts: four more sixes off the last over gave him his hundred, and he ended with 118 from 45 balls.

This gave the bowlers a remarkable 258 runs to defend. Prash gave us a good start and trapped their opener LBW in the first over, and Anvesh bowled through his four to end with excellent figures of 4-16 (including a searing inswinger to uproot the stumps of their left-handed number 4). Everyone else chipped in with wickets, no one went for very many runs, and soon Umeå were bowled out for just 56 – giving us a victory margin of 201 runs!

These results mean that we are currently top of the table with 6 wins from 6, with 4 matches remaining. However, we are not yet guaranteed a semi-final spot, and we know that now is not the time to take our foot off the gas – especially since we won 9 of 10 last year and then lost the semi-final. Stay tuned to find out if we can go two better this year!

Publicerad: 2024-08-09 21:21

Reds 40 over season report - part 2

Game 5: Reds vs Titans

The most important game of the season yet. The winner of this game was going to top the league table and would qualify to play a qualifier to get promoted to Superettan. This was it, the 2 strongest teams in the group going head on! We were set to play at Skarpnäck, but we were still the away team. The opponents set big boundaries, trying to make it difficult for us. The umpire even had to intervene and ask the opposition to pull one of the boundaries back in, since it was dangerously close to the outer fence. The Titans refused, but we weren’t bothered by this, since we always played with bigger boundaries ourselves, if perhaps never quite this big. Our opponents won the toss and decided to bat – clearly, they hadn’t seen that we were unbeaten in our last 7 games bowling first… Naturally, we were very happy with this decision and were pumped up for the big game.

As usual, we started with our pace/spin attack. Both Ben and Prashant kept things tidy and picked up a wicket each. At the end of 7 overs, they were left 24/2. We squeezed them in and kept things very tight in the field, not allowing them to score. They had to crack at some point. It didn’t take long for that to happen, the very next over Prashant dismissed 3 of their batsmen and picked up a hattrick. It was brilliant bowling from Prashant. He continued and picked up two more wickets and finished the spell with a fifer, 5/22 in 8 overs. The opponents were left reeling at 61 for the loss of 6 wickets. But with our strike bowler finished, the Titans dug in and fought hard to reach 127 without any further wickets. As they began to attack our spinners, the pressure was back on us. Up stepped Nabo, our medium pacer. He broke the partnership and pulled us back into the game. In came Shrikanth and cleaned up the tail, picking up 3 wickets in an over. He finished with good figures of 3 for 32 in his 4 overs. In the end, we managed to get them all out for 150.

We had a strong batting lineup, so we were confident of chasing down the target. Things didn’t go our way and we lost 2 wickets in just the second over with no runs on board. 0/2 soon became 17/3. Prashant joined Ankit, who was already at the crease and was putting on a fight. Finally, things started going our way and runs were flowing. We soon reached 50 in the 10th over. But then, disaster! Prashant was out caught. We were 50 for 5, and soon thereafter 60 for 6. Ankit was still at the crease and was playing well, but he needed support. In, I (Karthik) walked. We both planned that we would set small targets and work towards them, instead of looking at the actual target. We had plenty of time, since it was a T40 game. I just rotated the strike as Ankit kept batting brilliantly at the other end, respecting the good balls and making sure to put the bad balls away. Soon he reached his fifty and we were very much en route to reach the target. From 62 for 5, we reached 130. With the target in sight, I decided to go for it and got out for 31 off 40 deliveries. Shrikanth then came in and smashed a couple of sixes. In the end we won with 4 wickets in hand, Ankit being unbeaten yet again and finishing on 63. A well fought innings and an innings that deserved the man of the match award. This meant that we had qualified for the qualifier and we were just one game away to win our promotion to superettan. A few of us popped open some beers to celebrate the occasion. Well done boys!

Game 6: Reds vs SMI Mavericks

It was the day after midsummer. Yes, we had a game that day. A few boys were tired, the others a bit groggy. Nonetheless, we got going again. SMI won the toss and chose to bat. Again, we were at our strongest. We started off on the front foot, putting a lot of pressure on their batsmen and reducing them to 56 runs with 5 wickets down. In walked their allsvenskan players (one more than league rules allowed… a point we have duly raised with the SCF!), and they started counter attacking us. We rotated the bowlers to get a breakthrough, but nothing seemed to be working. But then in came Ankit and picked both their batsmen. They were 136/7. Keeping the qualifier in mind, I then tried bringing in a few bowlers, including myself, to gain some confidence ahead of the qualifier coming up in a couple of weeks. That was a big mistake, we let them off the hook. Their tail ender scored 38 not out and we only bowled them out for 191 in the 39th over.

Our chase did not start well, our top 3 falling cheaply. We were left struggling at 3 runs for 3 wickets. This was the time to show our mettle and we needed a partnership. This was exactly what had happened, in stepped our man in form Ankit and Aman alongside him. They started playing some brilliant sensible cricket, setting small targets and reaching them. They put on a partnership of 138 runs. We were flying and it was an easy cruise to victory. Then, Aman fell for a hard fought 45 off 79 balls. This triggered our typical DIF batting collapse, and we gifted the opposition with two more wickets in quick succession. We weren’t cruising anymore. With just 20 runs to win, Ankit fell, scoring a brilliant 89 off 90 balls. A superb innings! This was the final nail in coffin though, the rest of the batsmen falling very cheaply. We lost by just 13 runs, our first loss in 8 games and our unbeaten run coming to an end. What was disappointing was that we did this to ourselves rather than the opponents playing well. Maybe we were too complacent since the result of this game didn’t matter? A lesson learnt for the future.

It was still a brilliant effort from the boys, we won 5 out of 6 games in our T40 campaign. A brilliant job so far, but it’s not done yet.

We soon put our focus on the qualifier to be played on the 7th of July. We would be promoted to superettan if we win this game. Initially, this game was scheduled for the 6th of July. But, since we had the allsvenskan tour on the 6th, we requested the NLC to move this game, and eventually they agreed we could play on the 7th. We even booked the ground and my train ticket back from the allsvenskan tour a day early so I could play. Everything was set! But, to our surprise, the NLC decided to move the qualifier to a later date in September, out of nowhere, with less than a week’s notice. This was a very difficult date for us, as it is months since our last 40 overs game, and it clashes with the allsvenskan finals, which could leave us badly out of players given the myriad of restrictions SCF implement for finals… After a lot of back and forth, we managed to move the qualifier by a day. Special thanks to Pierre for constantly putting up with a lot of issues with the NLC and trying to fix everything for the team. It is very obvious that the odds have been piled up against us. Nonetheless, our team is ready!! We are all ready for the fight and looking forward to the qualifier on the 15th at Husby. Let’s go Reds!

Publicerad: 2024-08-05 21:21

Reds 40 over season report - part 1

It was September of 2023: as everyone keenly checked the results of our opposition’s match to see if we would indeed be qualifying for the Superettan, shouts of dismay rose. The match had been forfeited, and another team had qualified in our place, by the narrowest of margins. That was how our 2023 T40 campaign ended.

Come 2024, even before the winter training started, boys were very eager to start their winter training sessions, raring to go. A few months of training and it’s the first of May: game time!

Game 1: Reds vs Tullinge Heroes

The first game of the season usually feels rusty. But today, the boys were charged up and ready to go. Having won the toss, I chose to bowl first. The summer hadn’t set in yet (in face, it had snowed just days before) and the field was littered with dew. Moreover, the Reds made a habit of bowling first and destroying oppositions in 2023. We started off well with both Shaz and Ben starting off with a fiery spell. It almost looked like they were competing with each other, the way they were bowling jaffers, one after another. Shaz picked up four wickets in his 8 overs and just conceded 18 runs. Ben on the other end, having only conceded 8 runs off his 4 overs, was extremely unlucky to not pick up any wickets. The opponents only managed a mere 18 runs for the loss of two wickets off their opening spells. In came the spinners, Prashant, Shrikanth and Deepak, who gave hell to the opponents and dismissed them for 89 runs, each of them picking up 2 wickets. The batting started well with Andy getting to a quick fire 24 and the rest chipping in to reach our target in just 16 overs. A few late wickets belied some rustiness in the batting, but nonetheless it was a comprehensive win. Good start to the season.

Game 2: Reds vs RPCC Thunder

The second game was almost identical to the first. The opponents won the toss and decided to bat first, a decision with which we were delighted. Again, the two pacers started going at the opposition, much like the game before. The opponents were left struggling at 33/4 at the end of 10 overs, Shaz had picked up 3 wickets of his 5 overs and Ben picking up 1. In came the spinners and troubled their batsmen with Shrikanth picking up a wicket and Deepak with 2. Shaz then came back into the attack and cleaned up their tail, ending up with a fifer. At the end, he bowled 7 overs, conceded only 8 runs and picked up 5 wickets. The opponents were dismissed for just 103 in 20 overs. This time the batting was much better with the top 3 each getting to their 20’s quickly. We managed to chase down the target in just 15 overs. Another comprehensive win and we make it two out two. The Man of match being awarded to Shaz for his bowling effort.

Game 3: Reds vs Upplands Bro

After a 4-week break, the reds were back! This time playing an away game at Kungsängen. This hasn’t been a friendly ground to the Reds in the past, so we had to give our everything in this game. It started positively with the opposition winning the toss and choosing to bat first. A few fresh faces joined the team, but this didn’t really change anything. We went with the same energy. This time we started off with pace at one end and spin on the other with Prashant back in the side. At the end of their first spell, Ben picked up 2 wickets from his 4 overs and Prashant picked up one in his 4 overs, leaving the opponents at a precarious 43/3. In came Nabo and Shrikanth, Shrikanth picking up 2 quick wickets in one over and Nabo picking up a crucial wicket. The opponents were left at 60 for the loss of 6 wickets. Like a cat being backed into a corner, the opponents started going after the spinners. It was time to counter-attack them and had to bring back Prashant into the attack. It worked! Prashant, as usual, delivered and cleaned them up. They were dismissed for 114 with Prashant picking up 4. We started our chase aggressively and were 35 with no loss of wickets in just 4 overs. Soon we lost our first wicket, but then walked in Deepak and smashed a couple of sixes out of the park. We were able to reach the target in just 15 overs with Ankit being the pick of the batsmen, staying unbeaten on 43 with 8 boundaries to his name. Prashant was awarded the man of match for his figures of 4/16. Seems like things are finally turning for us at Kungsängen. We move on to game 4.

Game 4: Reds vs Mälaren CC

We were back in Skarpnäck, a ground we know very well and a ground we call home. It started off well with us winning the toss. Any guesses as to what we chose? Yes, we bowled first. It was an easy decision. With a few of our regulars missing, we had to rope in some of our players from our first team. It started off well, with the spin and pace combination of Prashant and Anvesh. They managed to restrict the opponents to 35 runs in 8 overs, the batsmen managed to be very selective with their shots and played them off carefully. We were left without any wickets and had to try something different, we brought in Shikhar to try his medium pace, but it still wasn’t cutting it. Then, we decided to slow down the ball and went with our spin attack. In came Deepak and picked up our first wicket in his second over. Then, Aman struck in his first over to leave them 70 runs with 2 wickets down in 14 overs. Deepak and Aman bowled a few tight overs, trying to pile up the pressure. They managed to build up the pressure and something had to give, Deepak striking at regular intervals to break the back of their batting order. Spin seemed to be the key and soon Prashant and myself (Karthik) picking up 2 each. They were dismissed for 156 with Deepak being the pick of the bowlers with a fifer and ending up with figures of 5 for 41. The target of 156 was the highest so far for us to chase. Andy opened with a new batting partner in Prashant. Prashant had been working hard on his batting and was waiting for an opportunity to showcase his skills. He did not disappoint as he went after the bowlers and eased us towards our target, smashing 76 off just 57 deliveries with seven 4’s and three 6’s. We won the game with 4 wickets in hand. The Man of the match being awarded to Prashant, but I felt that the award should have been shared by both Deepak and Prashant.

This left us in a very healthy position in the league table, but with our biggest challenges yet to come! Stay tuned for part 2.

Publicerad: 2024-08-05 20:35

Allsvenskan Tour Report (Malmö & Gothenburg)

Having missed out on the finals in the T10 and 40 over tournaments, our Allsvenskan team began the T20 competition with a lot to prove. A tour to Malmö and Gothenburg was the perfect place to start.

DIF vs Ariana, Linhamnsfältet (Malmö), 6th July

First up was Ariana CC, fresh from having won the T10 tournament the week before. Things did not start well at all: the very first ball was a half tracker that somehow shot along the ground and wiped out the base of Aritra’s stumps. Welcome to Malmö, I guess. (This did not bode well for the remaining 79.5 overs we would play on this pitch, but somehow that was the only ball that misbehaved quite so much).

Things went from bad to worse for us, and we soon found ourselves 28 for 5. Ariana had their tails up, and the umpires seemed in a hurry to get home, having given Rahul out lbw to one that appeared to be missing the stumps by at least a foot! But this brought Shaurav and Sesanka together, and they kept things steady, pushing the ball around and making sure that we would manage to bat out the overs. Sesanka eventually fell for 30 off 31 balls, which allowed Karthik to come in and deploy some lusty blows, but the pick of the batting was definitely Shaurav, who managed a gritty 54 off 48 as we ended up on 132 runs.

We knew that we’d need to bowl well to defend this total, given that Ariana had regularly scored in excess of 100 in the T10 tournament. We needed a good start, so we tried to surprise the batters by opening with spin… but it backfired somewhat, and after four overs the score was 40/0. The captain rang the changes, and in came the left arm seamers, Anvesh and Pierre. Anvesh struck first, dismissing the danger man Aryan Sarweri (who had 24 from 12), and then Pierre bowled a double wicket maiden, including a ball that swung around corners to break the off stump clean in two. Both Anvesh and Pierre continued to strike, and their combined spell of 6 overs delivered 5 wickets and went for 14 runs.

This meant the score was 54/5 from 10 overs: very much game on. Shravan was brought back into the attack, along with Sesanka, and they kept it quiet for the next few overs, picking up another three wickets, and leaving Ariana with a very tough ask indeed. There were perhaps a few nerves started getting hold of a few of them, and hit Shaurav for two sixes off the first two balls of his comeback over, but Shaurav kept his nerve and dismissed him the very next ball, and the game was pretty much done and dusted: Ariana was eventually bowled out for 110 off 18.1 overs. The pick of the bowling was Pierre, with 3-10 from his four overs, and Anvesh, with 2-12. The spin twins Shravan (2-28) and Shaurav (2-36 off 3.1) also ended up with very respectable figures, despite a tough start.

DIF vs Malmöhus, Linhamnsfältet (Malmö), 6th July

Now our tails were up, and we received reinforcements in the form of Shahzeb, who had missed his train to Malmö in the morning. So, after a short break for lunch, we were eager to face Malmöhus. We batted first again, and this time it started much better, with Raz getting hold of a few. However, wickets fell at regular intervals too. Karthik threatened to cut loose, and comically caused a left arm spinner to completely lose the plot, as he was so scared of bowling in the hitting arc that he bowled a head high full toss and then an off the pitch no ball. But when Raz fell for a well-made 28 off 20, the score was 67/4 off 8.3, and we were in danger of squandering our good start. In came Shaurav again, and he smashed 61 from 39, including five sixes. However, he had very little support at the other end, and we were bowled out for 140 two balls shy of 20 overs.

Having dismissed Ariana for 110 on the same pitch, we were confident that this was a competitive score, so long as we continued to bowl well. Anvesh and Shahzeb opened up and bowled good areas, and the openers were soon walking back with the score 10/2 off four overs. The pressure continued to build, as Pierre kept things tight, and Anvesh took another two wickets in his final over to end with 2-21. Rahul took a stunning one-handed catch to give Sesanka a wicket, and the batters hardly seemed to be chasing the target, and they had as little as 44/4 off the first 10 overs. Shahzeb returned to clean things up, ending with figures of 3-9, including a wicket maiden. In the end, Malmöhus limped to 113/8, but in truth it was a comprehensive victory and they never looked like getting anywhere near chasing the target.

DIF vs Seaside, Gothenburg Ground 17, 7th July

This left us a little while to enjoy the beach before we headed up the coast to Gothenburg. Eventually we arrived quite late in the night, although not too late to enjoy a bit of the Gothenburg night life… The next morning, 12 bleary eyed and sore – but quite upbeat – cricketers made their way to the pitch to face Seaside CC, in defiance of gale force winds and an ever-present threat of rain. After some delays caused by the other team somehow being late for a 10 am start, we once again batted first, and this time our line up came good. Raz got us off to a flyer before he was run out for 27 from 14, and Aritra compiled a well made 69 from 52, during which he looked thoroughly untroubled. Nevan, at 3, made 49 from 41, including three huge sixes. When he fell, the score was 134/2 off 15.2, and we had hopes of pushing for 200, but in the end, we had to settle for 180/4.

Anvesh once again picked up an early wicket, but further breakthroughs proved tough to come by, especially since we kept dropping catches (perhaps the late night had something to do with it…). However, we managed to keep things tight, and at the halfway point the score was 74/1 and they had a lot to do. The next few overs, their batters got hold of a few, and suddenly the score was 109/1 off 13: 72 were required off the last 7, and the first signs of panic were perhaps visible.

The captain once again turned to his left arm seamers, and Anvesh quickly picked up a vital wicket. Pierre kept things tight, and bowled two overs for six runs, with a wicket included, and Shaurav showed everyone how it’s done by picking up a hattrick. This essentially killed the game, and although their opener remained not out on 74, they could only manage 139/7 – job done. Standout figures were 3-31 for Shaurav and 2-21 for Anvesh. Pierre managed 1-20, and Shahzeb ended with 1-23.

Right on cue, the heavens opened, and the team took refuge in a nearby pizzeria, where we enjoyed some hard earned food before beginning the long journey back to Stockholm.

Publicerad: 2024-07-13 16:47

League Schedules 2024

This year, we have two men's teams in 40 overs and T20 cricket, and one in T10s.

Publicerad: 2024-02-15 14:45

Ny U8 Akademi i samarbete med City Cricket Academy

Vi har teamat upp med City Cricket Academy för att ge möjligheten till unga barn 6 till 8 år att lära sig spela cricket. With Wynand unable to travel to Umeå and later sustaining a small injury, Aritra has taken the captaincy for this part of the season. Here is how our matches have gone so far:

*Umeå*
For our first game we travelled to Umeå with a relatively new squad. On a damp outfield we lost the toss and were sent in to bowl first. We started off sisådär leaking a few runs but Sesanka taking two spectacular catches at long on meant we were in with a good chance, with Umeå at 58/2 after 8.6 overs. From there we bowled tightly in spells, especially the spinners, and had them 160/7 after 31 overs. A late partnership meant the opposition managed to get to 216 all out after 38.4 overs. Nasim bowled well getting 3 wickets, as well as Shravan and debutant Pankaj who got 2 wickets each. Deepak also bowled a very economical spell only giving 25 runs off his 8 overs, somehow not getting a wicket. Batting-wise, we got off to a bad start with Aritra getting out with no runs on the board. Nevan and Deepak stabilised the innings. After 23 overs we were at 125/3 and all the momentum was with us needing less than run a ball. Shravan batted well making 51(46), getting off to a flying start and seeing out the tricky leg spinner Umar. However, a classic DIF collapse meant we ended up making 173 all out in 33.5 overs.

*Hammarby*
Our second game was against Hammarby which was played in Skarpnäck. With half of the Skarpnäck outfield resembling a swamp we decided to bowl first after winning hoping it would dry up. Hammarby got off to a good start, helped partly by some controversial lbw decisions and poor fielding. Asim got the first breakthrough in the 18th over taking the wicket of Sadat, with Hammarby on 95. Wickets fell here and there but opener Rahel kept ticking over the scoreboard. Shravan finally got Rahel caught at long on at 138/4 after 25.6 overs. After that we made quick work of them with some clinical bowling and fielding, including a direct hit from Anvesh standing at the sweeper cover boundary. Hammarby ended on 161 all out from 34.1. Shaurav ended with figures of 6.1-0-30-3, with Asim and Shravan also bowling economical spells and getting 2 wickets apiece. In the batting innings we failed to start well again with both openers Raz and Aritra getting out quickly. Shaurav steadied the ship with a brilliant 50 including 3 6's, but we were in trouble after Shaurav, Asim and Deepak got out in the span of 5 balls, leaving us at 74/5 after 16.2. In came Karthik to save the day smashing a chanceless 61*(33) with some huge sixes, together with Shravan who kept the score ticking along. In the end we chased down 162 winning by 5 wickets with 15.1 overs to spare.

*SMI Mavericks*
The last game we played was against SMI Mavericks on a tricky wicket in Norsborg. Again with some puddles on the outfield and the uneven pitch we decided to bowl first. Shaz and Asim bowled tight opening spells which meant SMI were 7/0 after 8 overs. After that the spinners came on bowling and continued bowling tightly, with Shaurav getting the first wicket before having to stop due to a small finger injury. Wickets kept falling regularly and SMI were 47/6 at drinks after 20 overs. The opening bowlers were brought back on soon and SMI were all out for 76 after 27.3. Standout for the bowlers was Shaz with figures of 7.3-2-9-3. Deepak also got 3 wickets, and 4 bowlers were bowling at an economy of 2 or under. With a low total to chase, we came in to bat with confidence. We chased 77 in 17.3 overs, with Nevan carrying his bat making 23*(46).

*To come*
We now have 2 remaining games against Tigers and Super Kings in the regular season, which are must win. At this stage it is unclear however whether just the table toppers or top 2 go through to the finals, but regardless we are in with a good chance.

2nd Team

In our first match of the 40 over season, we faced Sky Sports Club in Kungsängen. On a damp morning, captain Karthik lost the toss and was put in to bowl. Nasim bowled a fiery opening spell to dismiss the openers, before Shrikant took a further three with a fine display of accurate legspin. Sky Sports were in further trouble when they lost two more wickets in an over to Karthik, our sharp fielding effecting a run out.

This left them 99/7 after 16 overs, which was pretty good going considering that the balls were now starting to resemble bars of soap. Unfortunately, we were unable to wrap up the innings, however, and their number 7 batter smashed 75 off 43 to almost single-handedly propel them to 206 runs before Nasim returned to knock back his off peg.

Our game plan going into the innings was clear: they had only managed 31.2 overs, and the run rate required was only 5 an over, so if we managed to bat our 40 overs we would probably win the game. However, all did not go to plan and soon we were 13/2. Henry and Andy counter-attacked, before Karthik hit some big blows, but wickets continued to fall all too regularly and soon we were 65/5 after 12.3 overs. Debutant Shreyas was now joined by regular first teamer Aritra and they set about restoring calm and put on a fifty partnership, Shreyas scoring 30 and Aritra 44. However, they fell in quick succession - Aritra to a freak delivery which stayed low and cut back a good yard - to leave Shravan and Gautham another 55 runs to score.

This seemed like an easy ask while Shravan was at the crease, and he scored at will, stroking 35 from 31. However, he holed out to mid off with just ten required to win. Now things became tense. Gautham and Nasim chipped away at the total as the Sky Sports players increasingly lost their cool at life, the universe and everything (or rather, at the fact that the umpires were unwilling to give them bad decisions). Their fast bowler was bowling quicker - and shouting louder - with every ball, but Gautham in particular was impressively calm. Unfortunately, Nasim went for glory with two to win and got bowled, leaving Fredrik with four balls to survive. A wide brought the scores level, but unfortunately the toe-crusher followed, and he was out plumb in front to leave the scores level.

All in all, a thrilling start to the long format season, with many encouraging performances. We have four matches remaining - hopefully, we can go one better next week!

Publicerad: 2023-08-20 22:07

T20 Semi Finals Tomorrow

Tomorrow the men's allsvenskan team will face Ariana in the semi finals of the national T20 tournament in Malmo. Batting first, DiF reached the opening pair of Shaurav and Raz put on 40 off the first 3 overs before Shaurav was dismissed for 20 off 11. Raz went on to make 34 off 22, while Shaizeb pitched in with 22 off 10 to set up a total of 115. This looked a good score, but not one that would be beyond the reach of Söder if they got off to a good start. Fortunately, they got off the quite the opposite, and were 22-5 off 3.3 overs. Their middle order rallied to get them close, but ultimately national team heroes Shahzib Chaudry (2-12) and Prashant (2-15) ensured that they fell 10 runs short, Shahzaib winning man of the match to boot.

With this, they qualified for SM-Veckan in Umeå.

Men - T20 Allsvenskan

The Men's Allsvenskan team has been unbeaten since the last roundup, defeating Sikif, Helsingborg and Märsta. Noteworthy performances include Nevan's 66 against SIKIF. Shaurav has been excellent all-round with 76 runs and 7 wickets between the three games. Liam took 4-29 to restrict Märsta in a potentially tight chase, while Prashant's 4-16 kept Helsingborg to a paltry 125.

Men - T20 Superettan

The Reds registered their first win of the year against Stockholm Tigers, Asim nailing the chase of 139 with his 73 off 44. As he had been unavailable for the previous Allsvenskan game, first teamer Ankit was also able to play and contributed handsomely with 48 runs and 3 wickets.

However, these fortunes could not be replicated in the other two matches, against Västerås and Eagles, in spite of a positively heroic 74 off 34 Sesanka made coming in at number 8 against the former.

Ladies - T20

In their sole T20 since the last roundup, the ladies scored a crushing victory over Västerås. Gunjan scored a maiden 100, ending on 112 off 57, while Dia made 97 not out off 67 as they scored 261 for the loss of just one wicket. In reply, Västerås fell over 200 runs short as the DiF bowlers dismissed them for 59, the wickets shared around amongst them.

Ladies - T10

Unfortunately, Västerås were able to gain revenge over the ladies the very next day in the T10 competition, as DiF's 80 runs (thanks mainly to Gunjan's 31) proved insufficient. However, the ladies remain on course to progress in the competition, having easily defeated Stockholm CC.

Publicerad: 2023-06-12 23:55

Match Fixture Lists

SCF has released (most of) the 2023 fixture lists:
Men's Allsvenskan T20s
Men's 2nd Team (Reds) T20s
Men's T10s
Men's 40 over Allsvenskan
Men's 40 over 2nd Team (Reds)
Ladies' T20
Ladies T10
U19s (youth/ungdomar)
U15s (youth/ungdomar)

Publicerad: 2023-05-19 15:01

Weekly Roundup - Crushing Victory for DiF Ladies

Ladies

The ladies were in a hurry to end their game on Saturday. After restricting Stockholm CC to just 25 off 11.2 overs with a fine display of bowling (Monali boasting figures of 3 for 5, Gunjan 2 for 1), they knocked off the runs in just 7 balls, and now boast a net run rate of a whopping 21.04 in the SCL T20 competition. Blandine was player of the match for her 16 runs and one wicket.

Youth

Report by Benedict, 18th of May
U15s took a road trip to Märsta. Ved won the toss and elected to bowl. This paid dividends already in the first over, as he took a neat caught and bowled. However, the next two batsmen settled in and gradually started to put on some runs but not at an exorbitant rate. Ved took the second wicket in the 13th over with the score on 81. The next two wickets fell in quick succession to Arnav Dubey including an excellent catch by stand-in keeper Jhanik. But the next partnership stayed together to the end of the innings, adding 61 runs in the last 5 overs. 144 looked like a doable score but again it would have been better to cut down on the extras.

However, batting got off to horrible start with 3 wickets gone already in the first over. And by the 5th over we were already 15-6. However, Arnav Singh the open was still there and started to score freely and put on a nice partnership with Jhanik for the 7th wicket. With his departure, Vir came in and also started to play some nice shots. Unfortunately, Arnav got out soon after for 25. But Vir shepherded the tail and new boy Agarav got his first runs for DIF, before getting out.

Next match is versus Botkyrka this Sunday. Hopefully we will be back to full strength.

Report by Benedict, 16th of May
The first game of the season for U15, against one of the SCC U15 teams took place on Monday evening. DIF won the toss and elected to bowl. While SCC boys were pegged back in the beginning by two stumpings from Rishabh off Ved's bowling, the extras started to mount even though the other bowlers still took wickets, especially Arnav Dubey who took 3 wickets, and Ved shone again with a great catch in the field. In the end, SCC made 160 in the 20 overs but the 43 extras in the end would cost the boys. They started brightly keeping up the run chase, but overs 6-9 saw the rate climb, and four quick wickets did not help the cause either. But Ved and Nethyll started to accumulate runs and suddenly the rate become manageable until Ved got out bowled. Vaibav and Nethyll tried to get as many runs in the final over possible, showing that ones can be turned to twos if you put pressure on the fielders. But in the end, they were 18 runs short of the total. Ved was man of the match with his 3 wickets and 42 runs.

Men

The men delivered a crushing victory in their opening T10 game on the 12th of May, scoring a walloping 181/1 off their 10 overs. Shaurav Sarkar smashed 94 off 29 with 9 fours and 8 sixes, while Ashik Imtiaz ended on 62 not out, also off 29 balls.

YCSA fell well short and ended at 43/8, the wickets shared around. Shahzeb's figures were the standout, with 2 wickets for 2 runs in his 2 overs.

Report by Prashant, 6th of May
We played our first match against Hammarby today at Granby, Husby. As it was 9 am early morning start, we elected to bowl first after winning toss to utilize the conditions on local Perth-like pitch. Bilal Saleem Ansari, Shaurav Sarkar and Raz Imtiaz made their debuts for DIF today.

The innings was started by our bowling spearhead Shahzeb Choudhry along with Bilal Saleem Ansari. They kept the openers in check and later on offspinner Shaurav Sarkar during powerplay capitalize on it and provided us first breakthrough, ended his fabulous spell with 13-2 in 4 overs. He was well supported by Shravan Kannan from another end, who chipped 2 wickets by giving mere 21 runs. One of the other highlights was Sesanka Katuri’s acrobatic fielding efforts, taking 2 run outs and a catch. Later on, I took 3 more wickets and Hammarby folded up at 117.

Imtiaz and Shaurav Sarkar opened the batting for us and quickly crossed 50 runs mark within powerplay on a tricky pitch. Raz got out at 41 runs in just 34 balls and replaced by Aritra Bhakat, who was unlucky today and stumped out at nought. Shaurav was joined by our national keeper Wynand Boshoff, who blasted 2 mighty sixes to keep us on track and made 27 runs. We achieved the target in 14.2 overs. Our allrounder Shaurav contributed 35 runs and was the easy choice for MOM.

Great win in our first match and hope to continue the same momentum further ahead in T20 and T10.

Publicerad: 2023-05-19 14:10

SPL a Success

The hard work of the team of DiF volunteers paid off, and the SPL was run smoothly and successfully.

Amongst the finest cricketing talent in Sweden, the DiF boys stood out, and Wynand, Shahzeb and Prashant were selected for the national team's upcoming matches against Norway and Denmark, while Liam made the development squad.

Publicerad: 2023-05-19 13:40

SPL

DIF cricket is delighted to be hosting the SPL at Skaprnäck 29th April-1st May
This a regional tournament with the nest palyers from Skåne/Göteborg and Stockholm regions playing each other in a round robin tournament.
DIF will be represented by Wynand, Shaz, Liam and Prashant.

Publicerad: 2023-04-28 19:21

Summer Trainings

Training times at Skarpnäck from May 1st
Ladies Monday 16.30-20.00 Field and Nets
Youth Tuesday 16.30-1830 Fields and Nets
Senior Thursday 16.30-20.00 Field and Nets
Youth/Ladies Saturday 10-14 Nets
Youth Sundday 11-13 Nets

Publicerad: 2023-04-28 19:17

DIF cricket Årsmöte/AGM

The board has decided that this year's AGM will be held on the 11th February on Zoom at 14.00
Styrelse har bestämt att årmöte kommer den 11e Februari på Zoom kl14.00

Meijla info@difcricket.se för lösenord att komma i till möte

Publicerad: 2023-01-14 13:45
